Artist Statement

I am originally from Washington DC, also went to school in Germany and Washington State. After high school I served four years in the Air Force and met my husband in Anchorage, AK. I took a few art classes at the University of Alaska and decided I would like to be an art educator. While attending Central Michigan University, I developed my interest in painting. All my life ,as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for drawing. I am particularly interested in the visual arts and have had a lifetime of encouraging younger artists to explore their talents. The past ten years I have focused on painting those I miss the most, especially my grandchildren and family members. I see my art as a way to reach out and share it with my loved ones.Over the years, I have experimented with various two and three dimensional techniques and have found my joy in pen and ink and painting. It has given me the opportunity to express dreams and thoughts about my heritage and those that have come before me. I see my creations as journeys through the relationships that I encounter. Recently, I have discovered that I enjoy working on a larger scale.
